Do ask for your referral :)

Also try wet wrap, many parents feedback it helps. Bleach bath? For my girl, I clean off the staph bacteria with chlorhexidine. I'm doing an interview with a dermatologist on bacteria now, I first learnt about it from my girl's doc. Extract below for your info, take care & do update us :)

"How much chlorhexidine to put on the cotton pad (soaking wet or squeezed dry wet) and how many ‘swipes’ are required to kill the bacteria?

Dr. Clay: Chlorhexidine is also effective at killing bacteria and basically, all one needs is to coat the area and rinse with water. There is no “right” amount to use, just use enough to cover the area and wash it off. Different products come with different instructions, so follow those as it may be necessary to leave it on a bit longer before washing. "

all comments with these technical medical terms scare the wits out of me
If you have seen your child unable to sleep and scratching until their skin bleeds, something I used to find unbearable.

Part of the problem is no one explains the process to you so you don't know what treatment or support is out there. I have been reluctant to push for referral because I assumed this would mean stronger steroids. I am going to have to go back to docs earlier as a week of eumovate didn't completely rid her of inflammation and it is now coming back with 1 percent hydrocortisone which has never happened before. According to NICE guidelines I thought you could only get a referral to a dermatologist after2 years of uncontrolled eczema. Anyway hopefully I will manage to get an appointment with gp this week and can ask then. Haven't heard of bleach bath will push to try this to.

You definitely do not have to have uncontrolled eczema for 2 years to get a referral to a dermatologist. My son had his first referral at just 3 months old. I would definitely ask for the referral. It does not necessarily mean stronger topical steroids as there are other treatments available to try.

Re: New User with 2 years old and severe eczema!!

Oh my god my last post had such terrible spelling. I apologise for that. I just wanted to point out that doctors medication is not necessarily what should be required to control eczema. It is just part of the solution. The way we live, the way we dress and the amount of time we put into researching the types of detergents we use around our homes can play an amazingly positive part in controlling eczema. It helps build the wee ones immunity at home so that all irritants outside of the home can be dealt with using a stronger immune system. Yes they grow out of it but why let them suffer during the time up until they grow out of it? Furthermore what guarantees are there that the wee one will grow out of it?? Shouldnt a cleaner safer home be more important anyway?

Re: New User with 2 years old and severe eczema!!

Thanks Kelly for sharing about the referral bit - I'm in Singapore and our most common understanding of referral is being referred from a GP to a specialist, and a referral from a GP at government clinic meant that the specialist consultation is subsidized. Seeing a specialist at a hospital meant access to allergy testing and doctors who are day-in & out seeing children/ seeing skin conditions, and they have more options for topical application and more other products like wet wraps which certain product range is only sold in hospitals with the specialist skin care.

Take care,
Mei
