Re: Washing Powders/Liquids
Hi. I've tried the eco balls when my son was a toddler they got most stains out, anything else i'd wash as normal then rewash 2 or 3 times before he wore them again. We use fairy non bio washing powder and he doesn't seem to react to it. I only use half the powder the pack states and have the extra rinse always set so there is little chance of any powder left on the clothes.

Washing Powder Allergy
I have used Surcare for many years but, a few months ago they changed the packaging, and added an extra ingredient to their powder. I was slightly cautious as I have found my triggers and avoid anything that may cause any problems for myself and my children.
My five year old son has developed blisters on his elbows and says he is itchy. I have developed a heat rash.
I don't want my eczema to come back, and was at a loss as to what I could use instead.
My Hubby suggested that I use soap flakes!!
So now I have stopped using surcare and use Granny Soap Flakes. My son is itching less and my rash is much better.
Because I do not use fabric conditioners, my laundry is usually quite stiff..LOL
The soap flakes leave everything really really soft too!
Has anyone else who uses surcare noticed their skin is worse?

Re: Washing Powder Allergy
Sammie it's strange you should mention this as I'm really suffering with itch at the moment and I'm using Surcare too.
I have a box of soap flakes so will give them a try again.

Re: Washing Powder Allergy
It can only be where Surcare have added extra ingredients...
Because I have such a violent reaction to most things, I do not deviate from what I know Does not bring on my eczema.
And I have used these products for many years without any reaction and no Eczema, nor my children.
Let me know how you get on with soap flakes sf34?

Re: Washing Powder Allergy
Interestingly I believe Surcare have recently changed their old formula for a new one and I have heard it has caused some peoples eczema to flare up.
Old Formulation
Aqua
Trideceth-3
Lauric Acid
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Sodium Hydroxide
Monopropylene Glycol (Chemical Name)
Alcohol Denat
Citric Acid
Acrylic Copolymer (Chemical Name)
Diethylenetriamine Pentamethylene Phosponic Acid
Optical Brightner (Chemical Name)
Silicon Antifoam (Chemical Name)
New Formulation
Aqua
Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Monoethanolamine salt (Chemical Name)
Monoethanolamine Cocoate (Chemical Name)
Trideceth-3
Methylpropanediol
Alcohol Denat.
Diethylenetriamine Pentamethylene Phosphonic Acid
Sodium Salt
Fluorescent Brightener 230
Silicone Antifoam
Ingredients In Old That Aren’t In New
Lauric Acid
Sodium Laureth Sulfate
Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
Sodium Hydroxide
Monopropylene Glycol (Chemical Name)
Sodium Hydroxide
Citric Acid
Acrylic Copolymer (Chemical Name)
Ingredients In New That Aren’t In Old
Dodecylbenzene Sulfonate Monoethanolamine salt (Chemical Name)
Monoethanolamine Cocoate (Chemical Name)
Methylpropanediol
Sodium Salt
This could be the reason if you had been using it before with no problems. Also many people have problems with the concentrated products as they will have a higher amount of possible irritants. I think you can still get the old formula but it may be better to switch to something else. Hope this helps

Re: Washing Powder Allergy
Thanks so much for that info Jentle
It is very useful to know for the future.
I have changed now to Soap Flakes, and have noticed that my skin is less irritated in the heat. And my son's skin is much improved since I switched products.
It's such a shame that Surcare have changed their product, can't imagine why they did?

Re: Washing Powders/Liquids
I put the Granny Soap Flakes to the test..and my son's skin is a lot better, and my rash is all but gone. My feet are less itchy too.
They are so mild...and can be used around the house...You can even wash your pets with them..and they come up super soft too.

Help!!!
I was using surcare washing powder until they changed the ingredients.....It brougnt out mine and my children's eczema.
I have had eczema for 20 years...And since I changed to fragrance free...Have not had any for 4 years.
I have been using Granny's Soap flakes....They are brilliant!
But I cannot find it anywhere....I have looked in all the supermarkets...I looked online...But there is no section where it can be perchased directly from the manufacturer.
I don't know what I can use now?????
I have a severe allergy to fragrence...So my choices are very limited.
Can anyone suggest any washing powder products for me to try? That does not have any fragrance!
Any help is appreciated..x

Re: Help!!!
Sammy I have used Dri-Pak soap flakes with success, you can buy them from Wilkinson's also online. Boots own soap flakes are supposed to be good too and fragrance free.
Re: Help!!!
I have just had a look at those..I will try them out!
