Help please. nothing helps
My son is 20 months old and has always had sensitive skin from birth. Just after his 1st birthday he had a shockingly bad flare up and was diagnosed with ezcema. At the time of the first diagnosis he was teething and had a cold, it was 3 weeks after his mmr and around the time I was weaning him onto cow's milk. We have had so much conflicting advice and opinions from health visitors, dermatologists, gp's homeopaths and health food shop assistants that i just don't know what to do for the best for him. He has tried every cream and lotion possible, homeopathic remedies, antibiotics and supplements and nothing seems to help. He takes antihistamine when it get's really itchy. I've been told that he would have also have been allergic to formula milk if it was a cow's milk allergy and also been told that food won't have anything to do with it. Someone has now suggested it could be lactose to blame and I have started to give him rice milk. (soya milk previously seemed to aggravate things) I am seriously now so confused i just don't know what to do. The eczema is the worst on his face and just never ever goes away completely and just goes in cycles of a few days of really bad to not so bad. Any advice would be really appreciated. Please help!

Hi
As a Mum of 2 with Eczema and food allergies, my daughter is allergic to dairy products, I would recomend you get a referal to a food allergy peadiatic doctor for some allergy tests. Keep a log of reactions and symptoms as the tests are very much based upon the history of symptoms. Be careful withdrawing anything from the diet without medical support. We are also under the care of a dietician. Good luck

Re: Help please. nothing helps
Our daughter used to have horrible excema as well but we've done a few things to help her and now she has been clear about 99% of the time with wonderful skin and no more itchies just an ocaissional flare up that we can now control. It involved changing her diet despite what her allergist said, giving her effective supplements and switching our laundry, personal care and cleaning supplies to ones that didn't have ingredients that harm the immune system. Within about three months she was a normal, healthy little girl who wouldn't wake 7 times a night scratching and crying, who would allow hugs and who had smiles much more than tears. WHAT A BLESSING!!
We had tried every lotion and potion, prescription, etc. out there and then finally had success by listening to our instincts and doing some work on our own.
Keep it up. You will find the right combination to make things better.

Hard time any advice?
Hey guys,
I'm new to all this and feel a bit silly complaining as you are all having as hard a time as I am but its nice to know there are people out there that may understand. My family are at their wits end because they want to help and try hard to sympathise but i know they cant really grasp how horrible it is.
I'm 19 and I've had eczema my whole life. I've had periods where its been good but mainly its severe and all over my body and face. I've tried everything- wet wrapping, holistic therapies, light treatment, steroid creams, chinese herbal tea/tablets, porridge and oilatum baths and nothing has worked. I am being put on oral steroids after visiting a specialist and want to know if anyone has had experience of them? I'm worried about the side effects but I'm very depressed with my eczema and will do anything to get rid of it.
I would appreciate any advice you can give me
Thanks,
Roselle

Re: Hard time any advice?
Hi Roselle, sorry your having a really hard time with your skin at the mo, really understand how you are feeling. The experience I have had with oral steroids is that the ezcema reallyy calms down and is great then a week later it flares up really bad again. I would demand patch tests from your dermatologist as this could narrow down what your allergic to.
hope you start to feel better soon x

hiya
just thought i'd drop you a quick message to let you know that you are not alone. i'm a new member and joined as i've been really upset recently after another flare up. it really gets me down when its bad and it affects my moods and i really dont feel like doing anything - especially when its so uncomfortable. i have found it helpful to talk to peopl ewho know what i'm going through cos although the peopl eclose to me are caring and sympathetic, they still dont know what it feels like.
so just thought i'd let you know that you are not alone, and i know the frustration you are going through.
hope you find something that works for you x x

eczema and how it disables you.please help
Hello I am new member, and i am a severe eczema sufferer. It's on my hands, and there are days when it hurt so much that I can't do anything with my hands..... I would put my hands under hot scolding water to stop the itch, and then I can continue with my day... . My motivation, that made me sign up today;is that my, significant other has never dealt with or knew anyone that has eczema, and had the audasity to tell me that she thinks,I am over exaggerating or milking the situation so, I don't have to do housework, or help around the house, because I would say i am in too much pain to wash dishes, help with the laundry. she goes on to say, she cant understand if it hurt so much that i cant do chores around the house, how do i manage to be on the internet. She doesnt understand the difference between, washing dishes with my hand constantly in the water and the soap, and even using the rubber gloves, or handling the dirty clothes, and taking the wet clothes, and folding the hot clothes... Please if you have the time, and you write your story, on what you go through during and eczema outbreak...
thank you in advance

hiya,
i feel your pain. i really do, having suffered from eczema for 20 years. i joined last month, but dint really get much response to my posts
so responding to you to let you know that you are not alone.
i had a flare up early last year after a bad period of stress and since then have been unable to get it under control. i was recently prescribed antibiotics, and although it got better, it has now got worse again. i have it all over, not just confined to certain places, tho i'm lucky enough not to get it on my face. i think its the fact that its always ther and the constant upkeep that gets me down - the fact i HAVE to put creams on every morning and after every shower. sometimes i feel why should i have to put up with it!
as far as housework etc goes, i understand where you're coming from. i'm really surprised ur partner isnt more understanding! mind you i can see how she would get annoyed having to do it all. one thing i would suggest is to change the products you use. i have recently discovered 'surecare' products. specifically designed for sensitive skin. have just this minute finished the washing up and my hands don't hurt! woot! its great. they also do washing powders etc. its definately worth looking into.
hope this helps x
