It’s normal when starting a family to experience sleep deprivation with a newborn and for most, this does get better once a baby gets older. However, for some this continues with research saying it might go on for six years – and the rest!

If a child isn’t getting enough sleep – and there are around 40% across England and Wales who don’t – then the parents probably aren’t either, causing increasing stresses among the whole family and the risk of day time behaviour problems arising.

We were joined by experts Lisa Artis head of The Sleep Council and Vicki Dawson, CEO and founder of The Children’s Sleep Charity who answered your questions on setting boundaries and routines, how to deal with a child who won’t sleep and how to look after your own sleep needs. The clinic is now closed but you can view the questions and answers here. Read here for a summary article of the clinic.

The Sleep Council is an impartial, advisory organisation that promotes the benefits of a good night’s sleep to health and wellbeing. Visit the Sleep Council charity page to find out more.
