Re: Hungry!

It would be important to check that she is growing well on an age appropriate weight and height centile chart. If your daughter has multiple food allergies then she should have her allergies properly assessed and as part of this have an assessment of her diet to see that she is meeting her calcium, ...

Re: Perianal abscess related to food allergy?

A perianal abscess is a very unusual presentation of delayed cow's milk protein allergy. It would be useful to know if there were any 'allergy cells' (eosinophils) in his gut and whether the inflammation was due to this. Unfortunately there are no good tests for delayed gastrointestinal food allergi...

Re: Non-IgE allergies or ?

Good evening. It is possible that your daughter does have delayed gastrointestinal food allergies. Often delayed gastrointestinal food allergies have negative skin prick tests. This can be assessed and managed by any paediatric allergy service and there are several medical treatments available. We u...

Re: Celiac Disease

Dear ChazBobBonz81,

Please see my response to the Wheat and Gluten Allergy post where I discuss wheat and gluten intolerance and different conditions which can be associated with this.

Narrowing of the small intestine is not usually caused by an allergy to wheat or coeliac disease.

Re: Reintroducing dairy questions

Dear emma_l_m, Please do not continue giving you son foods that he is having hives to (in this case grated cheese). I would also not try to give him yoghurt and butter, but stick to the baked cakes and bread with extensively heated cow's milk. If he has tolerated pancakes then this is fine to contin...

Re: nut allergies

Dear pamela62, This sounds like an allergic reaction to cashew nut. This could be true nut allergy (associated with severe allergic reactions and possible anaphylaxis) or oral allergy syndrome to nuts which results from cross-reactivity to tree pollens and is less commonly associated with severe all...

Re: Challenge testing

Dear LMG1663, Thank-you for your comprehensive post and for highlighting two topical issues at the moment: careers and food allergy and peanut desensitisation. With regards to your son's possible career as a pilot, I do think it is important that you have more clarity on whether he still has peanut ...

Re: Labelling

Dear mrsh2105, The issue with labelling is difficult and a lot of work is on-going to try to improve this for people with food allergies. The Food Standards Agency will be bringing out results in the next 6-12 months of a large study where they assessed milk, gluten, peanut and hazelnut contaminatio...

Re: Shellfish allergy

You may have an allergy to crab and prawns as shellfish allergy may start in adulthood (unlike many other food allergies like cow's milk or egg allergy which usually start during infancy). The alternative would be that each time you ate prawns or crabs that they were off which is unlikely. I would s...

Re: Allergy symptoms

Dear Claire, It is possible that the tummy cramps, shakes and cold sweats came on coincidentally after reintroducing cow's milk back into the diet, perhaps because of an intercurrent viral illness. On the other hand it is possible that your daughter was displaying symptoms of delayed gastrointestina...
