Re: Medication/treatment
The treatment for Lichen Sclerosus depends on the presentation and severity. Usually a very potent topical steroid cream or ointment is used to get the condition under control (such as clobetasol propionate). This is prescribed once daily for a month and then weaned down to alternate days for the second month. Thereafter, if the condition is controlled it can be used twice per week or as needed. In less severe disease, or once the condition is under control, a less potent steroid cream or ointment can be used. Occasionally a combination cream is used if there is co-existing or recurrent infection. These creams usually contain an anti-fungal, an anti-bacterial or both. Washing with a soap substitute rather than soap is also helpful.
