Re: Lichen Amyloid

Hello
I am sorry to hear that you have the hereditary condition lichen amyloid. This is a rare condition, and symptoms are described as clusters of small skin or dark coloured scaly bumps, which can merge together to form raised thickened areas, especially on the shins and lower limbs. The arms and back can also be affected. Lichen amyloidosis is usually very itchy. There is no cure for this condition but a range of dermatology treatments can help manage symptoms, depending on how severe they are. Please have a look at this useful Patient Information Leaflet from The British Association of Dermatologists on Primary localised cutaneous amyloidosis (PLCA), which includes lichen amyloid. The leaflet discusses treatment options and self-care measures.

I suggest you ask your GP for a referral to the dermatology department, as this is a rare condition, and the symptoms you describe can be treated and managed.
I hope this helps you and your brothers.
