Acne

My son has just finished a 7 month course of accutane and now has scarring including some raised scar tissue I just wondered what was the best treatment to minimise/eradicate scarring please?

Re: Acne

Acne can result in scarring in at least 20% of people who experience it. On the face, acne scarring could be indented while on the body some people experience raised scars which are either hypertrophic or keloid in nature.

Raised scars are sometimes treated with topical steroids or steroid injections, though we might sometimes wait six months after isotretinoin therapy is finished to introduce these treatments. It might be worthwhile asking his dermatologist if these treatments may be appropriate in his case.

If you wanted to consider something in the meantime, a silicone-based gel (left to dry on as a thin layer) could be obtained over the counter and used daily on any raised scars, for 3 months. Results with this approach can be less consistent.

I hope this information is useful.
