Introducing myself

Hi all, I am 52 years of age and have suffered from Atopic eczema since I was a baby. I use a good number of products to try and relieve the soreness - the thing I have found most useful recently is Dermol 200 and 500 as soap substitutes as they help to stop infections developing. I have bad flare - ups at times, going through one at the moment.

Does anyone else find that occasional days without cream on help to improve the condition?

If I can be of any help to anyone on these forums I will do my best, I have loads of experience.

Currently using Betnovate ointment, Dermol 200 and 500, Urea cream, Locoid, Hydrocortisone 1%, amongst other things. I find night time the worst because it seems as soon as I get into bed the itching starts - have tried Atarax but it gave me irregular heart beat - sometimes use Phenergan 10mg if desperate!

Re: Introducing myself

Yo Granny60. I've just joined the site and I regret to say that I can outdo you in years as I'm 61
and have also had this dismal condition since birth. I had a bit of a respite between the ages
of 16 -35 (although I had one hospitalization for total body eczema infection during this period)
but sadly it's been back with me since then. I use Oilatum or Hydromol liquid in the bath, Betnovate and Clobetasone.

Havn't tried a day without ointment. Even with ointment I dry up in the space of 3 hours so I don't think
I'll be experimenting.

There seems to be more E about since I was a girl, and I suspect central heating has a hand in this.

Like you, with so many years before this particular mast, I'm happy to help anyone else if I'm able.

Quite recently I was diagnosed with eczema around the tearducts. I wouldn't have thought it possible
but there goes the very last bit of me that's not been affected.

I find it very hard sometimes not to rage against the universe.

Re: Introducing myself

Hi everyone,
I am new too. I would like to share my experience.
My 3 boys were hospitalized for respiratory problems when they were children. 5-7 years after that they were ok. Then the first boy (now early 20's) developed sinusitis when he was a teenager. He's ok now. We used anti-dust mite bedding covers only! Unbelievable!
The second & third boys have been having eczema until now, which both developed at about the age of 15 yrs old each. The eczema got worse when they are physically active. However their symptoms are controlled by using the bed mite bedding covers and some hydrotherapy bath which has ozone, negative ions & far infra-red features.
Can we rid off eczema all together? I am actually "tired" of the continuous attack!
Thanks for sharing!

Re: Introducing myself

Hi!

I'm mom to an eczema toddler and read a comment in earlier thread about skin getting better without cream for a while. Maybe you'd like to check if your cream contains any of the top allergens (listed by a doc I interviewed in my blog - check the tag-product label) or if it's an issue of clogging pores - look out for non-comedogenic products.

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that my toddler will grow out of it - would hate it if she's this her whole life! Thankfully, she's a very cheerful girl and didn't let eczema spoil any of the fun throughout the day!

xoxo, take care everyone.

Re: Introducing myself

On the choice of moisturizing creams, I always look for a few key considerations (1) not containing top irritant ingredients (2) clinically tested from reputable companies (3) affordable for long-term frequent use

As for organic, do understand the company and the certification process it goes through to be 'organic'. Organic does not necessarily mean you won't have an allergic reaction to it, as it is possible to be allergic to organic ingredients.

Top ingredients to avoid are:
Perfume/ Fragrance
Preservatives
Parabens
Propylene Glycol
Lanolin
Colorant/Dye
Conventional emulsifiers
Mineral oils
Paraffin
Sodium Lauryl Sulphate

Take care everyone,
Mei
p.s. the alternative names of above ingredients are on my blog, under product label tag. Can't link here, but if you're into LOOKING at ingredients, it'd make your job easier to compare.
