Damaged teeth
My daughter Alice, as some of you may know, had chronic atopic eczema for a number of years. We used a number of treatments including topical steroids. Given the severity of her eczema it was the only real option at the time.
Alice's baby teeth were lovely. But sadly her adult teeth have been fraught with problems. Last year, aged 12, she raised her kneed to her mouth whilst messing around, knocked her front adult tooth and it snapped in half. She's been extremely brave having had to undergoe numerous treatments to remove the nerve, root canal filling, building up the tooth and then having it done all over again just recently due to an infection.
Her other front tooth is also chipped.
I mentioned the eczema to my dentist AND the fact I'd read an article about steroid use and weak teeth. He knew exactly what I was talking about!
Alice has now been prescribed special toothpaste with higher levels of fluoride which should apparently help to strengthen her teeth. I am concerned. However, dentistry has come such a long way since I was little that pretty much anything is possible now in terms of giving you the smile you want.
Has anyone else experienced any problems with their teeth they think could be related to steroid use? Wish I could find that article - If I can I'll amend this post and add it in.

Re: Damaged teeth
Hey Deborah,
Yes! I can totally identify. My son is 6 years old and has had eczema (much better now) since he was 6. I was so frustrated because he had so many issues and no one seemed to tell me how they were related. He had tooth decay by the time he was 1 and a half. He had to be put under twice to fix his front baby teeth and finally they got so bad, the dentist had to take them out. I started reading about tooth decay and going to a naturopathic doctor for his eczema. The more reading I had done the more things started to come together. His adult teeth are growing in now- and he doesn't seem to be having any problems. You can strengthen your daughters teeth naturally- believe it or not. From all the reading that I've done more flouride can damage her health. I read a book called cure tooth decay by Ramiel Nagel. He gives you a general diet that will help strengthen the teeth. And I aslo bought and looked through Weston Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration". The pics in there will blow your mind. Its about traditional societies that started eating "modern" diets (and this was in the 40s). He showed how teeth are a sign of overall health. If you can get to the root of her tooth problem, you can also help her do much better with her eczema. Its a step by step process. I wish you the best of luck!

Re: Damaged teeth
That's new to me, shall note it down and do some research on tooth and eczema.
Can I check with Deborah and Meimuna, are you referring to topical or oral steroids? And what's the frequency and strength of use?
And talking about teeth, mine was commented dirty for the first time ever because I didn't have time to brush my teeth proper while taking care of my baby with eczema!
To clean sparking teeth!
