overactive bladder
How can I calm down my bladder?
I do take Lyrinel XL but still get problems. What is Botox and how does it help?
Is this a long term cure?

Re: overactive bladder
Botulinum toxin is a protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium and it is used to relax muscle tissue. Some patients get an excellant reponse and need no further tretment.. others need mediacation further down the line.. but this seems to be even more effective post botox. Others need a repeat dose 6 - 12 months later. The most significant risk is completely stopping your bladder from working so all patients are taught how to catheterise themselves. Hope this helps

Re: overactive bladder
If you have a proven overactive bladder then BOTOX has an excellent chance of working for you.
It can decrease frequency, urgency, urge incontinence and nocturia.
It can be given under local or general anaesthetic.
Works well in around 80% of people with proven overactive bladder.

Re: overactive bladder
I have had a weak bladder since I had my son 2years ago. I can't work out because urine just pops out uncontrollably and when I sneeze I also pass urine. Please what do I do?
Re: overactive bladder
I would suggest you try pelvic floor exercises in the first instance. If these do not work then visit your GP. You may need to be referred to a specialist Physiotherapist who will be able to assess your pelvic floor and suggest ways to improve them. The GP should rule out a urine infection. It is important to continue to drink plenty of fluid as dehydration can make this worse.

You may find it helpful to speak to a continence adviser at the Bladder & Bowel Foundation. Call 0845 345 0165, leave your name and number and an adviser will call you back.

sounds like stress incontinence due to muscle weakness.
start with pelvic floor physio and weight loss
then if no joy after 1 year post child birth it is worth considering referral to a uro-gynaecologist or urologist specialising in female incontinence as you may be a candidate for a sling/TVT/TOT operation to fix this definitively.
