Pet allergy
My son appears to have an allergy to animal hairs. He is desperate to have a dog. Can anyone recommend any breeds that are particularly suitable for allergy sufferers?
Re: Pet allergy
My husband also has an allergy to pet hair. We were keen to have a dog though and did a fair amount of research and decided upon a schnauzer. My husband has had some reaction to it but it's not nearly as bad as to many dogs and he tries not to bet too close to it and makes sure that once he's touched it he washes his hands. Good luck with the hunt!

Re: Pet allergy
I have a problem that needs help fairly quickly. I took in a stray cat about 5 months ago, and being prone to bronchitis with suspected COPD/ASTHMA/COUGH-VARIANT ASTHMA/ALLERGIC-TYPE ASTHMA (diagnosed last week by a hospital specialist in Respiratory Medicine), this weekend it occurred to me that it could be the cat I am allergic to as my house has been cat-free for one week, during which time my symptoms have dramatically improved! I have also started to take Salbutamol last Monday which is the day my cat went into the Animal Hospital - awaiting a thyroidectomy. I need to be checked as to whether the cat has dramatically exacerbated my allergy symptoms, mainly of the ongoing coughing variety, plus hay-fever, conjunctivitis, slight eczema on back BECAUSE I CANNOT HAVE HER BACK IF SHE IS THE CAUSE OR IS EXACERBATING WHAT I HAVE. (I have in the past had some hayfever - but nothing like at present! And little Sophie is the only NEW change in my life in the past 10 years)... Also, is there a way to have a pinprick test re causes, as the Reg in Resp Med gave me inhalers to relieve/prevent coughing fits and I expect generally to decrease the hayfever symptoms - and will only see me in 3 months' time. I cannot go to my GP as went there 3x last week to obtain the relevant drugs, and they are not sympathetic. I ALSO NEED TO FIND OUT WHETHER I CAN HAVE MY DARLING LITTLE SOPHIE BACK, AND TAKE FOR INSTANCE BENADRYL??? I will do anything to get the cat back because she is 11 years old and nobody will want her at that age with medical problems, other than somebody who loves her. Help!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi
You have a tough road/choice ahead. I feel you know the answer and are looking for someone to change your mind. There are skin prick tests but my kids had them on the NHS. Good luck x

Re: Pet allergy
This is such a shame - what happened with you and your cat in the end?
Re: Pet allergy
I had allergic reactions to pets and I would sneeze a lot when I stayed at the first level of our house where our pets would be free to linger around. Though it long became a puzzle as to why I would experience that.
Then we tried taking away those with allergens at a time and found out that the carpet and our dogs were the biggest contributor to that. It was really sad but we had to do it.
