How do you test for allergies?

I have a constant running nose and sneezing for many years. My GP had sent me for skin pricks, and they came up with nothing.
But my sister suffers from hay fever, and my brother says he has runny nose when drinking milk. I had Dermatitis several times, and when I drink milk, my throat always feels funny, so I believe I do have allergies.

Problem is, even when I don't drink milk, I still have a runny nose and hoarse and sneezing.

What other allergy tests are there? My GP doesn't want to send me to more tests, so I'll have to do it privately. I can probably afford it, but don't know which tests are there beside the skin pricks.

Can you please tell me what other tests there are?

Hi felines are superior,

Thank you for your post.

Please check out one of our charity supporters Allergy UK. There is lots of information on their website plus a helpline so hopefully they can give you some advice.

Also you may want to do a food diary and elimination diet and see which foods could be triggering your symptoms. This would not be a true allergy but food intolerance:

Kind regards

It could be effects of dairy products, analyse what you did for that day. Go through what you have eaten and when exactly the issues happen and google it. Google usually has all the answers and perspectives of different people. Stay safe.

Re: How do you test for allergies?

These are different types of allergy tests available like skin prick test, Intradermal skin test, patch test, blood test whenever skin test can not perform. All these tests can be performed according everyone's body.

Also you can try allergy medications which are good to use. One of these medicines which is an antihistamine oral tablet used for controlling various symptoms such as eyes, runny nose, itching eyes/nose, sneezing, hives, and itching. It works by blocking a chemical that triggers the reaction called histamine. Inhibiting the secretion of this chemical helps to palliate the allergic reaction.

I used to have Hayfever: yet now pollen doesn't bother me.

My good friend is allergic to prawns: if she eats even one prawn her face becomes red and blotchy and her breathing is affected. She also has to be careful around other seafood that could've been mixed with prawns.

Having an allergy does make life difficult sometimes but they can be managable.

Hi, I hope you're feeling better now. My doctor told me for the first time to simply exclude products that potentially cause allergies for a couple of weeks, and then add them to the diet alternately. Now I do this with milk. The doctor saw my skin rashes. Now I have not been drinking milk for a week, and the rashes are gradually passing

The Skin Prick Test (SPT) is the most well-known kind of sensitivity test specialists use to analyze sensitivities. Skin tests can be the most dependable and most affordable method for affirming allergens. SPT is a basic, protected and fast test, that gives results inside 15-20 minutes.
