How to cope holistically with congential heart disease (CHD) and other chronic illnesses
While care for CHD has historically been ‘survival focused,’ the emotional, psychological and practical burdens of living with a lifelong heart condition, and other chronic illnesses are rarely addressed. For many, lifelong medical conditions can increase exposure to a range of unique psychosocial challenges. In fact, lifetime prevalence of anxiety, depression and post-traumatic stress is as high as fifty percent for the CHD population, which is more than double the general population. However, studies have shown mental health disorders in this population are often missed. Adverse childhood experiences, including serious childhood illness, have been shown to follow individuals into adulthood and are associated with a wide range of health risks including having a negative impact on mental health.
In this webinar Tracy Livecchi (LCSW) and Liza Morton (PhD) will tell their stories and talk about some of the associated psychosocial challenges many individuals with CHD experience, which can be similar to the experiences of those living with other lifelong illnesses. They will cover the risk factors shown to be related to these common challenges, as well as review the ways to protect yourself, build resilience and maximize the likelihood of developing post traumatic growth. They will also talk about how individuals can use their voice to begin to feel empowered to become a patient expert and will review some evidence-based tools and strategies to help manage the challenges, stress and difficult feelings that can often accompany the experience of living with a serious, lifelong illness.

ADHD - What it is. What it isn’t. And how it may be related to chronic conditions
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, or ADHD, affects around 2.6 million people in the UK. Most people are diagnosed between the ages of 3 to 7, however a large proportion of people - particularly females - are told they have ADHD later in life. This is largely down to the range of symptoms that characterise the condition, and how people are able to mask certain behaviours.
We are excited to welcome Sarah Templeton, author and founder of Headstuff ADHD Therapy, into the webinar hot seat. She is determined to iron out exactly what ADHD isn't and arm you with the knowledge you need to spot the signs. Read talkhealth meets.....Sarah Templeton
